The NY shipper didn't scare away anyone as a full gate of 12 faced starter Tom Schwigen. Local runner Storm Wreck bided his time to the far turn, then pulled ahead of the heavy favorite in mid stretch. In a thrilling stretch drive Coyote Lakes managed to wrest the lead back and go on to a half length victory. Owner Roddey Valente indicated after the race that Coyote Lakes would aim toward a route race at Santa Anita. Perhaps there is also a Mass Cap in his future.
