The Floyd Duncan StakesMost of the pre-race attention for the first stakes race of the year was directed toward Ned Allard's Rippling Return, who won last year's edition of The Floyd Duncan, but lots of morning work by Winston Thompson with Yasou Stable's Special Jule resulted in an easy win for the Assimakopoulos' color bearer. Special Jule registered a nine length victory in an eye popping 1:12.4. |

The Collegian StakesSeveral years ago Tony Esposito was a student at the University of Rhode Island working on a degree in Research Development. After a trip to Kentucky for a job on a golf course he fell in love with horse racing. Tony's first stakes win came aboard Formal Escape in this year's edition of The Collegian Stakes for three-year-olds. Formal Escape was making only his second lifetime start, his first being a win over Farmer In The Dell at Rockingham last summer. Congratulations to Tony and the connections of Formal Escape, the Anastazia Enterprises and Golden Eye Stable. |

The Waquoit StakesThis year's edition of the race named for the local hero who beat Broad Brush in The 1987 Mass Cap provided another exciting finish. Ken Logan's Yaegar battled with Paul Mattes' Storm Wreck the length of the stretch to gain a hard fought victory. Jockey Vernon Bush noted after the race "I would definitely say the MassCap could be an option for this horse." |
