The Rudy Baez Stakes

Jockey Vernon Bush had a "Rudy Baez " type day  booting home five winners including the feature named in Rudy's honor. Vernon guided the Steve Jerkins trained Seattle Surprise to victory in the route race for three-year-olds, taking the lead at the top of the stretch, and holding off the favorite Strike 'n Go.

The Helena Stakes

Jill's Layup captured The Mom's Command as a two-year-old going short, now she has added to her resume a win at a mile against others of her own generation. New York based Paraneck Stable shipped up Virgin Voyage in hopes of capturing some black type but the favorite went wide at the top of the stretch and Taylor Hole and Jill's Layup slipped inside and gained a lead they would not give up. Jill's Layup ran her record to six wins and a second in eight lifetime starts and has stakes victories at The Mass Bred and open levels in sprints and distance races.

The Miss Indy Anna Stakes 

On the First Saturday in May the eyes of the racing world turn to Churchill Downs, but an exciting day of racing took place at the Downs, highlighted by the Miss Indy Anna Stakes. In the final strides of the race John Murphy's Bruanna caught Yasou Stable's Special Jule to capture this sprint stakes for fillies.

The William Almy Stakes

Tammi Piermarini  and Dhaffir caught heavy favorite Run Kush Run in deep stretch and drew off to a length victory in an exciting finish to this year's edition of the Almy Stakes. The seven-year-old gelded son of Smooth Performance completed the six furlong distance in 1:11.43. Trainer Pamela Angevine noted after the race that Dhaffir will probably be pointed toward The Bayard Tuckerman on May 26th
