Although racing managed to continue uninterrupted because of legislative issues Old Man Winter continued to wreak havoc on attempts to run live racing in the early months of 2001 at Suffolk Downs. In spite of weather related problems several highlights brightened the winter racing season.

Taylor Hole Records his 1000 Career win 

     On January 14th Taylor Hole recorded his 1000th career victory on Salt State. Taylor recorded his first career win on January 17, 1992 on just his third career mount . Taylor has spent most of his career riding in the New England region

The Collegian Stakes

     On February 3rd  the best three-year-olds in New England lined up for the Collegian Stakes. Under sunny but cold skies Manfred Roos' Cliffdiver held off the fast closing favorite Yasou Daniel to win by a neck. Cliffdiver's trainer John Rigattieri trained Collegian to victories a decade ago. This looks to be a competitive  year for three-year-olds in New England.
