Although racing managed to continue uninterrupted because of legislative issues Old Man Winter continued to wreak havoc on attempts to run live racing in the early months of 2001 at Suffolk Downs. In spite of weather related problems several highlights brightened the winter racing season. |

The Collegian StakesOn February 3rd the best three-year-olds in New England lined up for the Collegian Stakes. Under sunny but cold skies Manfred Roos' Cliffdiver held off the fast closing favorite Yasou Daniel to win by a neck. Cliffdiver's trainer John Rigattieri trained Collegian to victories a decade ago. This looks to be a competitive year for three-year-olds in New England. |
