Cliffdiver captures Rudy Baez stakes

On March 24th the Jockey who has had more trips to the winners' circle than any other New England jockey, Rudy Baez, returned to the winners' circle two more times. In an allowance race for three-year- olds the Yasou stable's Yasou R Baez who was named in honor of Rudy took a nose victory over Diablo's Well.

The Rudy Baez Stakes

The second running of The Rudy Baez Stakes provided   a glimpse of what could be a rivalry for three-year-old honors. Cliffdiver (pictured at top) prevailed over favored Yasou Daniel. The two had battled to a close finish earlier in the year in the Collegian Stakes. Rudy was on hand to present the trophy to the winning connections

The Helena Stakes

This year's running of this mile stakes for three-year-old fillies was dominated by the Francis McDonnell owned Buzzing B's. Sent off  as the odds-on favorite she took over the lead on the backside and never looked back, winning by ten lengths. Joe Hampshire who guided her to victory had five  winners in six mounts on the day.

Buzzing B's and Joe Hampshire had a good day!!

The My Fair Lady Stakes

 The first Saturday in May is Derby Day in Kentucky and the start of  turf racing at Suffolk Downs. A Derby Day crowd of 11,789 watched as New York invader Step with Style defeated local favorite Buzzing B's. Step with Style and Jorge Vargas took command at the top of the stretch and drew away.
