The Thoroughbred Racing Fans of New England took their traditional trip to the Upstate New York Racing Mecca on the first weekend of August. With the shakeup of the stakes schedule due to the Breeders' Cup being at Belmont Park this year the Whitney Handicap was not among the races we usually get to see. On the schedule this year were The Amsterdam on Friday, The Jim Dandy on Saturday, and the Vanderbilt Handicap on Sunday. |

The weather during the three days was hot and humid and the promise of lower humidity on Sunday never materialized. Luckily there was little rain during the stay (except Friday night) and Turf racing was conducted preventing a lot of scratches. Members enjoyed dining at the Paddock Tent on Friday. For racing coverage see Saratoga 2001 pages. |
