Sent off as the post time favorite, the Augustin Stable color bearer avenged his loss of the 2002 edition of this race.

The SpinawayMany hoped for the beautifully bred Phipps homebred Daydreaming to rise to the task of winning a graded stakes off her impressive seven length maiden victory. Sent off at as the favorite, Daydreaming stumbled at the start and was never really a factor. Starlight Stable's Ashado, with Edgar Prado in the irons, gained her second graded stakes victory with a one-length victory. Ashado had won The Schuylerville earlier in the meet.

The Hopeful StakesSaratoga 2003 has been all John Velazquez and Todd Pletcher. When that team went to bat with undefeated Chapel Royal the fans sent him off at odds on for Saratoga's last major stakes of the meet. The "Graveyard of Champions" produced another upset as long shot Silver Wagon, with Jerry Bailey in the irons, came flying late to capture the 99th running of this historic race.
