The 130th Preakness

This year's version of the second jewel of the Triple Crown will be remembered more for what happened at the top of the stretch than at the finish line. Scrappy T, who had just gotten the lead responded to a heavy left hand whip by veering out in front of Afleet Alex. Alex nearly went to his knees, then somehow managed to pull himself up. Even more amazing is that Afleet Alex regained his stride and went on to a five length win. Derby winner Giacomo finished third. Look for an exciting rematch as both are expected to contest the Belmont Stakes

The Pimlico Special

This year's version of this storied race attracted a field worthy of it's history. Offlee Wild and Funny Cide, who provided an exciting finish in last year's Mass Cap. Also in the starting gate were speedster Presidentialaffair and Eddington who contested the triple Crown last year.  Eddington grabbed the lead near the top of the stretch and went on to a five length win on a sloppy Pimlico track. The four-year-old son of Unbridled was ridden to victory by Eibar Coa.

The Black-Eyed Susan

As the field left the gate in The Black-Eyed Susan the reins on Edgar Prado's filly Merrill Gold broke off. The quick thinking Prado grabbed the bridle in an attempt to maintain control. Edgar managed to avoid disaster, although he did carry the field out on the first turn, and finish the race. Spun Sugar, (outside in photo) went on to win the race with John Velazquez up.
