Sprinkle of Gold, John Murphy's striking two-year-old son of Formal Gold, was heavily favored when the gate opened for The Norman Hall Stakes. His 1 to 9 status was quickly justified as he made every pole a winning one and carried Tammi Piermarini (photo above) to a length and a half win over a game Caller Sara Kate. John Murphy owned Formal Gold during his racing career. Formal Gold won The Woodward and The Brooklyn as a four-year-old and beat Champion Skip Away in four of their six meetings. |

In a maiden two-year-old filly race earlier in the day the buzz was about Panning Out, a filly out of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Tiznow, Jockey Winston Thompson wearing the famous Overbrook Farm silks. Panning Out could do no better than second as first time starter Put Away The Halo and Tammy Aplander gained control early and cruised to a thirteen length win for trainer Margaret Ferguson and Broadwall farm |
