Stakes action started on opening day as the best fillies on the grounds gathered for a sprint contest. John Murphy's Quick Smoke took the lead in deep stretch then held on for the win. Jockey Joe Hampshire was in the irons. The stakes win for Joe was coupled with three other wins as he swept the final four races of the day.
