The Rise Jim Stakes
The rivalry between Jini's Jet and Papa Ho Ho resumed in
the first Mass Bred stakes of the year. The Jet was assigned an incredible
128 pounds and it seemed that all the weight and a track not to his liking
contributed to his rival Papa Ho Ho gaining a front running victory. With
Joe Hampshire in the irons the ten-year-old gray clocked a speedy 1:10 3/5
to gain a near two length victory over Sunlit Ridge. The Jet finished
third. It was the 18th career victory for the gray son of On To Glory.

The Ernie Lowe Stallion Stakes
To honor the late Ernie Lowe, the Mass Breeders dedicated this race
for Mass Bred horses sired by a Mass Bred Stallion to his name. The
$50,000 purse is the largest of the spring meet. Trainer Manny Roos had
the heavily favored entry of Stylish Sultan and Sunlit Ridge. The Sultan
grabbed the lead at the top of the stretch and registered a near
four length victory with Winston Thompson in the irons.
