The Isadorable Stakes

In 1987, the great Mass Bred filly Isadorable won seven stakes races on her way to becoming the  top filly in New England. Six fillies faced the starter on March 16th when the gates opened in a race named in her honor.  Dr. Desai and jockey Vernon Bush shot to the lead and never looked back. It was the first stakes victory in two years for the Dr. and the biggest win of the year for Mr. Bush. Welcome back Vernon.

The Mystery Jet Stakes

When African Princess crossed the line to win the Mystery Jet Stakes for three-year-old fillies it was the second straight Mass Bred Stakes win for the Kirbys and jockey Vernon Bush. The hidden star of the year though has to be sire Sundance Ridge, who sired the winners of both of the Mass Bred Stakes as well as Stylish Sultan who has won two open stakes at the Downs since the first of the year.

The Rise Jim Stakes

At the end of 2001 Jini's Jet was on fire, ending the season with wins in the Mass Breeders Championship and the Mass Derby. After being given a vacation, Jini was back after a four month layoff to make his 02 debut. A bullet work last week indicated he was ready. On a tiring track Jini cruised through easy early fractions. The David Savary trained Al Bark made a race of it at the line closing to miss by a head.

Mass Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes

When Jini's Jet and Papa Ho Ho met in December in The Mass Breeders Championship the Jet was able to prevail by a length. In his first start since that race nine-year-old Papa Ho Ho stalked the front running Jini's Jet and pulled  past him in the final seventy yards. Papa Ho Ho is owned by Hy-Hopes Farm, trained by Ron Dandy, and was ridden today by Jorge Vargas.
