The Flash Stakes

Kinsman Stable's Deacon Shine (blue/brown silks) battled with favored Speed of Sound (black/red silks) through speedy early fractions of 21 4/5 and 45 2/5. The two battled down the stretch as Speed of Sound weakened slightly. As they approached the line, Union Course came charging. At the wire two noses were all that separated the three two-year olds, and it belonged to Beacon Shine. The Montbrook colt was ridden by Javier Castellano and is trained by Bill Mott. There are no racing plans for the colt at this time

The Hill Prince

Three horse finishes were the order of the day in the stakes races on  Friday. Just after the exciting Flash finish The Hill Prince produced a similar finish on the turf. Once again it was Javier Castellano who garnered the victory on Rey de Cafe (center). The ending was a little rocky as Prince Rahy (outside) came in, causing Rey de Cafe to bump inside horse Classic Campaign. The stewards let the result stand. Look for Rusty Arnold to run the three-year-old Kingmambo colt back in The Virginia Derby on July 16th.

The Meadowbrook Steeplechase

Although Paradise's Boss was  one of the favorites to win Steeplechase's version of The Triple Crown, dull finishes in the first two races put him at the starting line at a handsome 34 to 1. Ridden by Xavier Aizpuru the three-year-old gelding sat just off the pace through most of the first two miles, took command on the final turn, and pulled away over the final two jumps to post an easy win.
