The Demoiselle Stakes for two-year-old fillies was the
first of three graded races on the last of New York's big race days for
the season. Favoritism in this grade II event went to the well bred Miss
Grillo winner Fircroft. The AP Indy filly was the only stakes winner in
the field. Roar Emotion and Summer Scene were also noticed in the
wagering. In the paddock before the race, Feisty Step lived up to her
name, unloading jockey Jorge Chavez as he tried to mount. She tried
once again before leaving the paddock.

When the gates opened Roar Emotion went right to the lead. Roar
Emotion had disappointed as the heavy favorite in her last start because
of a displaced palate. Trainer Jose Martin equipped he filly with a
tongue tie and a figure eight bridle this time and the equipment change
seems to have worked. Roar Emotion led at every pole and registered a
two length victory.
