The storied Brooklyn Handicap was moved to Belmont Stakes day in an
effort to improve the quality of the card. The move worked. The 117th
running attracted a great field of older horses. NY familiars Funny Cide
and Evening Attire faced the starter, as well as graded stakes winners
Limehouse and Gygistar. Limehouse and John Velasquez settled behind
front running Rouge Agent, took the lead on the turn and went on to post
a length victory over favorite Gygistar. The Grand Slam colt ran his
winnings to over a million dollars with his seventh win in seventeen
starts.
