The first of the five Grade I stakes on Breeders' Cup Preview Day
proved to be an exciting one. New York Bred Fleet Indian held off the
fast closing Balletto to gain a head win in The Beldame and earn the
favorite status for The Breeders' Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs on Nov
4th. The five-year-old Indian Charlie mare has had a perfect record in
her six starts in 2006, her last win in the Grade I Personal
Ensign at Saratoga. Fleet Indian is owned by Paul Saylor, trained by
Todd Pletcher and was ridden by Jose Santos.
