High ChaparralAt this late stage in my Breeders' Cup Day I'm looking for another shot besides the finish. Then I remember With Anticipation is in the race and I plant myself down at my finish line spot with all the other photographers. If I were anywhere else and missed the nine-year-old wonder make his patented late move to win I would never forgive myself.

So what if he is running against the horse that won the Epsom, and Irish Derbies! So what if this European Champ is a third of his age! I've never been a good gambler because when I wager I do it more with my heart than with my head. As I aimed my camera toward the field as they neared the wire I saw With Anticipation a close second in my viewfinder and tried to will him to the line first. High Chaparral is a champion and ran a superb race to earn the two million dollar event but the old gray provided the thrills for me. |
