Three-year-old sensation Henny Hughes entered the gate as the favorite, but a slow start took him out of his game and he finished last, never a factor. Thor's Echo, sent off at 15 to 1, powered by Bordonaro on the turn and went on to a four length victory. Thor's Echo had second place finishes in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai and The Ancient Title handicap at Santa Anita earlier in the year. Trainer Doug O'Neill noted that if all goes well Thor's Echo will contest the De Francis Dash at Laurel Park in an attempt to earn  the Sprint Eclipse Award for 2006.
