Coming from the next-to-last at the half-mile pole, seven-year-old Miesque's Approval passed the field in the stretch and went on to post a three length victory at odds of 24 to 1. Twenty-two-year-old Jockey Eddie Castro, who was riding his very first Breeders' Cup mount, became the youngest jockey to win a Breeders' Cup race, a record that would last for only slightly more than two hours. New Englanders will remember Miesque's Approval as the winner of last year's Old Ironsides Stakes at Suffolk Downs. There are no plans yet to bring the winner back next year as an eight-year-old.
