The Phipps Stable's homebred Pine Island finally put it
all together with a Grade I win in The Alabama Stakes, Saratoga's
premier race for three-year-old fillies. The dark bay Arch filly had
troubled trips in her last two starts finishing strong seconds to
Bushfire in The Mother Goose and Wonder Lady Ann L in The Coaching Club
American Oaks. Pine Island passed pacesetter Teammate and drew away to
win by a length and a quarter in 2:02.87. Look for Pine Island to
come back in The Gazelle at Belmont Park on September 9th
