The Alabama Stakes

The Giant Killer strikes again. The Allen Jerkens' trained Society Selection upset heavily favored Ashado. Ashado had battled for the lead through the entire mile  and a quarter distance and it wore her down. As the field approached the wire Society Selection swept by on the outside to gain a two length victory.

   The Hopeful Stakes

Cash Is King Stable's Afleet Alex (outside) remained undefeated as he came from behind to gain a neck victory over front running Devil's Disciple. Ridden by Jeremy Rose, Afleet Alex covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.58. His next start will probably come in the Champagne.  Devil's Disciple could give him a rematch in The Champagne or race in The Lane's End Futurity at Keeneland.

      The Spinaway

The Michael Tabor owned Sense Of Style left no question of her superiority over the rest of the Spinaway field as she drew off to a 6 3/4 length win. Trained by Patrick Biancone and ridden by Edgar Prado this daughter of Thunder Gulch appears to be headed to The Matron Stakes at Belmont Park and/or The Breeders' Cup

  The Saratoga Breeders' Cup

A near record crowd of 70,175 turned out for giveaway Sunday and a chance to see local hero Funny Cide run in The Saratoga Breeders' Cup. Funny Cide, as always, ran a game race, but at the wire it was the Patrick Kelly trained Evening Attire who captured a five length victory. The six-year-old gelded son of Black Tie Affair will likely make his next start in The Jockey Club Gold Cup, which he won in 2002.
