The Acorn and The Flash -June 8, 2002

Graded Stakes action for the Belmont Stakes Weekend began on Friday afternoon with the running of the Grade I Acorn for three-year-old fillies and The Grade III Flash for two-year-olds at five furlongs.

The Acorn

This years running of the Acorn looked to be a battle between heavily favored Bella Bellucci and last year's two-year-old champion filly You. The Neil Drysdale  trained Bella Bellucci didn't take to the Belmont footing and was never a factor. The winner, You, battled with Willa On The Move early and went on to a seven length victory.

The Flash

Favorite Renegade Warrior broke down on the turn causing Windsor Lodge to lose his rider. With the two favorites out Patrick Biancone's Whywhywhy and jockey Edgar Prado gained an easy victory.
